Gertrudes street in Riga reminds one of an architectural text book.
The buildings were built mostly at the end of the 19th and begining of the 20th centuries.
At that time, Gertrudes street house owners liked to compete to see which of them could create the most interesting and original architecture.
During this time Hotel B&B Rīga was built.

Architectural experts still mention the most tasteful architectural models, and it is one of the reasons why the Hotel B&B Rīga is right here!
Fans of arhitecture enjoy the fact that majestic five-storey brick houses are often mixed in with small wooden buildings!
Gertrudes street is an integral part of the historic center of Riga with its hundred year old Swedish cobblestones on which inhabitants of Riga and Riga guests used to drive their carriages.
At the end of Gertrudes street stands the majestic columns of Rigas Old St.Ģertrūdes church, rebuilt 7 times in 600 years. It is said that a woman called Gertrude was immured within its walls.
The devil did not want this church to be built, so he hindered the work and demanded that someone be immured.
As no volunteers come forward, every passer by was offered the church keys, and the Governor’s post.
Nobody took the key until Gertrude. She agreed to manage the church and therefore signed her own fate..
In later years the name Gertrude was given to the whole street.
